Filmed last winter on one of the coldest wettest dampest days I decided to dress up 'relatively' smartly (if you are one of my regular customers you will know I'm usually found dressed in rags), as the 'Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is' team were coming here to the warehouse.

You only see a fraction of her relentless haggling skills as the presenter Kate Bliss did her best to rob me of my hard earned cash for the small lovely old glazed corner cupboard.

I don't know if this will be the start of my TV career or not, but if anyone reading this is interested I am available for a certain acting role when Daniel Craig has had enough of the part.

A pine refectory table and 2 benches ready for a customer

A few photos of an 8ft refectory table and 2 benches we have just made for a customer in Norfolk.

The benches were made to tuck in between the chunky square legs so they can be pushed out of the way to allow extra space around the table.

The table and benches have been made from old pine floorboards rescued from an old church which was being demolished in Packinton, Leicestershire. Notice the way the stretchers under the table have been sanded to produce an authentic worn look. The dark streaks are just the wet patches... It's outside drying there in the sun..

The customer wanted the table left in the bare wood, and are going to either paint it or wax it themselves, they haven't decided yet.

Chest of drawers now restored and for sale

Chest of drawers now all done

Treated it for wood worm, repaired a couple of the drawer runners and repaired the back. Then I filled a couple of small holes with sawdust filler which you can hardly notice, and waxed it all over with an 'Antique Brown Briwax'.

And I think it looks great. You can see it for sale in our pine chests of drawers category.

Victorian chest of drawers now stripped

I have repaired the drawers after removing the brass drop handles and realigned the drawer bases to close the gaps, and stripped the old wax off using a caustic solution, and washed it all off with a steam cleaner.

When dry, I sprayed it all with an acetic acid solution to neutralise the very alkaline caustic, so this will allow it to dry nicely.

Next job, when totally dry is to do all the little repairs, fit the lower side panel back on, fill some of the exterior and repair the back.

 

A Victorian pine chest of drawers to restore

My next project:

Well, this is my next project, a Victorian pine chest of drawers. 

List of work required:

Remove the old finish as it has been marked and stained with 'I wouldn't like to guess'.

Repair the drawers, the bases of the drawers have contracted to leave gaps. I will close these up by loosening the back of the drawers where it fixes to the base, tap the base so the gaps close, and then re attach to the bases.

Repair the lower plinth on the left hand side hopefully using the original piece which I have. This way the colour will be the same. It's very hard matching old wood.

When all done, I'll check it all over to see if the main body is also sturdy, and repair as necessary.

I'll have to make sure the drawers are running smoothly. Some of the runners look a little worn, but I think they'll be fine.

One of the brass drop handles is missing so I'll have a look in my bucket of bits to see if I can find something suitable. It'll be a shame not to keep the majority of the original handles.

When all this is done I'll clean off the wood a little making sure not to sand it too much and reveal the deeper different coloured wood, and finish using the usual wax finish.

Should look great.

Opening of 'Little Italy Espresso Bar' in Haddenham

A beautiful sunny day yesterday for the opening of the new station building and espresso bar at Haddenham and Thame Parkway train station.

We supplied the pine tables which we had made from old pine boards. The square chunky legs on the tables see to go really nicely with the layout of the espresso bare.

We can make tables to any size from really old battered floorboards to fairly clean old pine boards like the ones here. Made to order pine tables.

There were also some beautiful paintings from a local artist Robin Eckardt.

Raymond Blanc from his famous restaurant 'Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons' was there to open the new station building.

As you can see there was plenty of beautiful very tasty food.

We recently had the BBC filming at Pinefinders Old Pine Warehouse for their upcoming series of 'Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is'.

I will appear in 2 episodes, where I will be haggling as best I can purchasing a couple of rather nice antique pine corner cupboards from the presenter Kate Bliss. We recently made a table for a company displaying at The Chelsea Flower Show.

A large refectory style table, painted white to go with the chairs they had decided to use.

Recent buying trip to Austria

On a recent buying trip to Austria I came across some beautifully painted old pine furniture. Unfortunately the owners wouldn’t part with this furniture. I was especially keen on the old carved witch and thought she would have looked great in my showroom. They didn't want to sell her.
