Below are all the pine boxes, trunks, chests we currently have for sale.
The original purpose of the larger boxes was usually to store blankets and sheets etc. Some of the boxes we find have a small compartment inside. This was commonly used to store candles or sometimes soap.
The locks of the boxes may or may not be working. It is obviously very normal for keys to go missing, or for locks to break, especially on the Victorian boxes as these were often made from soft brass. If it is important to you have a working lock and key please let us know as we can sometimes repair or fit new locks if required.
If the box has carrying handles, these may or may not be able to support the weight. I always make a point of not carrying the piece by the handles.
The flat top boxes tend to make ideal coffee tables and we do sell an aweful lot for this purpose.
Larger chests were often made and given as wedding presents, hense 'Marriage Chests'. These were often very elaborately painted and usually with the date of the wedding, and sometimes with the initials of the bride and groom. When I find nice examples of these I like to keep them in the original paintwork.

A very attractive small Georgian pine Mule Chest, with a drawer at the bottom, a lift up lid with its original old metal strap hinges, and in great condition for its age, the bracket feet and plinth having been replaced.
